Teach Me How to Hobby

It’s common for couples to have different interests. Opposites attract, right?

Whether you’re a big fan of musicals and he likes rock concerts, or she likes crafting in her downtime and you like playing golf, your interests will never 100% line up. While it’s great to have hobbies you enjoy doing on your own, it’s always nice when your partner takes notice and drives the golf cart or reads the same book as you. It’s important to try creating time together, even if that means spending Sunday watching football.

For me, my boyfriend loves playing his Xbox. I wasn’t allowed to play video games growing up, so it’s not really my thing, but I’m trying to learn. I want to be part of something he enjoys so much! I’m horrible at it, but he loves watching me play—even if I die within 2 minutes. No, I’ll never want to spend all my free time playing games, but being able to share a hobby with him only brings us closer.

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut and forget that our S.O. has some hobbies outside the relationship. If you’re thinking about your boo right now and can’t recall what their hobbies really are, just ask. There’s no shame in getting to know more about them! Maybe they’ve been so hung up in love that they haven’t even made time for the things they enjoyed before meeting you!

Take time together to enjoy the little things (and life as a whole) together! Never stop learning about each other and participating in each other’s hobbies, even if it’s purely out of love. Maybe you’ll even find your new favorite hobby!
