Where to Kiss Under the Mistletoe

Kissing under mistletoe is a well-known holiday tradition and my personal favorite! 😉 Mistletoe was once used for healing powers by the Greeks, and the Celtics used it in hopes of restoring fertility in animals and humans alike. Eventually, it made the jump from a curing power to a romantic holiday decoration, and life has never been the same since!

While most of us now use the tradition for cute photos of our sugars giving us sugar, refusing a kiss after being caught under mistletoe was once viewed as bad luck. (Yikes—be careful where you stand!)

Another much more fun mistletoe pastime was pulling off a berry for every kiss and kissing until all the berries were gone. All in favor for bringing that one back?! 🙋‍♀

Since I know you’re looking for another excuse to travel and kiss your boo, I found the best places in the United States to pucker up this holiday season:

The Inn at Christmas Place (Pigeon Forge, TN)

You might miss the snow, but there’s not much else you’d miss at The Inn at Christmas Place! They decorate the place from beams to floorboards without a detail to spare. All month long, they have fun things to do like making gingerbread houses, decorating cookies, visiting Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Rudolph, stringing popcorn, and singing Christmas karaoke. Add in a mistletoe competition of your own and you’ve got a super romantic getaway. 😉

New York, New York

This is the one you knew would make the list even before you even opened the post. With the largest Christmas tree in the U.S., the mass amounts of engagements that happen at the Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink, and the way Times Square is constantly lit up, New York City is screaming to be your favorite Christmas destination. So, pull a berry or two off your sprig in NY. They’ll even have snow.

Leavenworth Village of Lights (Leavenworth, WA)

Leavenworth is a tiny Bavarian-style village nestled in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. Each year, Christmas lights outnumber the citizens of Leavenworth 2,500 to 1, but the festivities don’t stop there. The village has 4 festivals with live music, a special visit from Santa Claus, snow sculptures, sled pulls, live ice carving, and fireworks. You can even make this a Valentine’s Day trip for 2 as the lights will be on every night until February 14th. Two reasons to kiss!

Santa Claus, IN

You’re right: Santa Claus, Indiana really had no other choice than to become a Christmas cheer one-stop shop. If you have kids that you’re packing along (or if you’re just a kid at heart), Santa Claus, Indiana is the place for you. Even if you can’t go during the holiday season, you can still camp at Lake Rudolph and visit Santa’s Stables to ride a horse any time of the year. (Sorry—no reindeer!) Lucky you, mistletoe is also an evergreen. 😉

Wherever you go this season, even if it’s just to your in-laws’, find a way to make extraordinary memories and steal an extra kiss or two!

PS, did you know that the state flower of Oklahoma, where Datebox HQ is located, is mistletoe? Share your cute mistletoe pictures with us on social media using #honeyandboo!
