Pretend no more! Fall has arrived with the autumnal equinox that started on Saturday. In celebration, we searched and searched to find the best fall decor for your home—because it’s not official until your house is decorated, right?

iPhone X-tremely Cool New Features

Once again, Apple’s dazzling us all with their new iPhone X. We just can’t seem to get enough.

At Datebox, most of us are still sporting iPhone 6s — we’ve got one dude with a 5c. And no, we don’t understand either. But interestingly, only one person in the office is planning to jump ship right away for the new generation. Even though most of us won’t be in line to order one, we’re loving the new features on the iPhone X.

Here are the top 4 mind-blowing features of Gen X:

Animoji

All the possibilities with Animoji made me pretty pumped. I mean, you’re telling me I can be a unicorn or panda and it will mimic my facial expressions?!

Bitmoji no more. Sign me up! Side note: This quickly faded to concern because I have basically 3 facial expressions in my catalog.

Front-Facing Portrait Mode

Awwww SHOOT! I am here to tell you that the best photo ever taken of me was with an iPhone 7Plus using portrait mode. God bless us everyone, because our newsfeeds are all about to be stocked with selfies. And I mean STOCKED. This new camera paired with our blog post Take the Selfie Your Face Deserves — all I can say is:

Facial Recognition

Facial recognition is completely mind-blowing. I have two thoughts on this one: 1) Good luck to y’all snoopers out there because checking your boo’s phone just got harder. 2) Good luck to all the amazing makeup artists out there whose different looks make them look like a new person every day, because I’m still not sure if this will work for you!

For those of you who are planning to buy the new iPhone, convince us it’s worth its $999 price tag in the comments!

What to Wear on a Date Night In

Before every date, there’s the classic internal struggle about what to wear. Whether you just started dating or have been married a few years, it’s a whole ‘nother ball game when you start planning your threads for an at-home date. How do you juggle a Pinterest-worthy look with a comfy classic that makes you look like a million bucks but feels like your fave pjs? Struggle no longer, friend. How to Dress for: A Casual Game Night In

The best game night dates are comfy, casual, and a little competitive. A classic outfit like this looks poised, but is actually super chill. Grab your favorite white tee or tank, layer it with an oversized sweater in a gray or neutral tone, and throw on some black leggings to complete the look. Game night goals: achieved.

5 Ways to Donate Without Spending a Dime

In light of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, as well as the fires spreading across the Pacific Northwest, celebrities and everyday people alike have been donating their money to charities like American Red Cross and Samaritan’s Purse.

While money is definitely helpful in many ways, there are also other ways we can all help those affected by these natural disasters.

1.Volunteer your time at a food bank

After hurricanes and other natural disasters, local water is often not safe to drink and food supplies are limited. As people across the US send non-perishables, local food banks usually need assistance in getting the food packaged and out to those in need. If you’re able to donate your time, you can help the victims of these tragedies firsthand by donating your time.

      2.Donate your clothing

Since the school year just started, many people are using this time to go through their clothes from last year. Out with the old, in with the new! If you have items that you don’t wear or that don’t fit anymore, consider donating them to people who lost everything but the clothes on their backs. You can use a company like ThredUp or have a garage sale and donate the proceeds to your favorite charity.

      3.Help with the rebuild

While many are reacting now and are passionate about helping, after weeks have gone by and the stories are no longer filling our newsfeeds, many people will sadly forget that the impact of these natural disasters will be felt for months or years to come. Once the area has been cleaned up, the rebuild will begin—and unfortunately, only about 50% of those affected by Hurricane Harvey were covered for this type of damage. Get in contact with Habitat for Humanity or Team Rubicon for information on how you can help.

4.Adopt or foster displaced furry friends

If you’re considering adopting a pet, keep a lookout all around the country. Displaced animals are being taken to shelters across the country in hopes of finding someone to love them after their own traumatic experience. If you’re not ready to commit to a permanent new addition to your family, consider fostering for a short time until they find someone to take them in for good. You can also donate your time to shelters by helping them clean or take pets on a walk. Contact your local Humane Society for more information!

      5.Use your tech

There are many apps and websites that allow you to donate to the charity of your choice by doing things you already do every day. If you’re active, try Charity Miles or ResQWalk. If you like to play games, try Free Rice. You can even raise funds by simply opening a new tab on your browser using Tab for a Cause.

Bonus! If you’re able to donate financially, we recommend donating to Southeast Texas Strong, PNW Outdoor Women, and Public Good.

Get Your Productivity On

Don’t even tell me you’re not guilty. We all do it and we all have our favorite way to do it.

We’re talking about procrastination.

All in the name of productivity, we’ve rounded up our 5 favorite ways to fight procrastination. We can’t be perfect every day, but here are a few tips. We’re gonna try one tomorrow…

  1. StickK

StickK is a web app that helps you create a goal and stick to it using a personal commitment contract. You can make simple goals like cleaning the kitchen, or big goals like quitting smoking or buying a house. With StickK, you have the option to put money on the line and add referees to help keep you accountable. If you put money on the line, you’re up to 3X more likely to succeed in completing your goal!

  1. The Two-Minute Rule

This rule is based off of physics. As Sir Isaac Newton taught us, things at rest tend to stay at rest, while things in motion tend to stay in motion. If there are things you’ve been putting off but can complete in 2 minutes, you should just do them now. So, go ahead and set your dentist appointment or transfer money to your savings account. Next, spend 2 minutes on bigger things you’ve been putting off. If you want to eat healthier, look up a new healthy recipe and make a list of what you need or prep some grab bags of fruit. Once you’ve started, it makes it easier to eat healthier every day because you’ve already spent 2 minutes preparing.

  1. Pump Up the Jams

This one is for those of us whose biggest distractor is chatting with coworkers. Invest in a solid pair of noise-cancelling headphones. This will keep you from chiming in on friends’ conversations, as well as keep people from interrupting your work unless it’s for something really important!

  1. Make a List

One simple thing that can be really helpful is to make a list. It may seem obvious, but many of us still don’t do it. Making a list each morning, or at the beginning of your week, can help you visualize all the things you need to get done. It’s also nice to be able to check something off that list and give yourself a boost of confidence. If you’re really into planning and list making, you could use a site like Asana or Wunderlist.

  1. Remind Yo’ Self

If you’re a spender, this may be your favorite option on the list. There are tons of cute products out there that you can use in your work space, whether you’re a busy stay-at-home parent whose office is their SUV or a CEO who practically lives in their corner office.

What to Wear on Your Next Date Night – Guys Edition

Let’s be real: most of the time guys are content wearing jeans and a t-shirt. But when you’re going on a date, it’s time to kick it up a notch. These are simple ideas that you can mix & match for multiple looks. Stylish & savvy…that’s what we like.

Here are some tips & date night looks that’ll have your honey bun all ???.

Groom yo’ self.

There’s nothing more disappointing to your date than finding out you didn’t invest the energy to cut your hair, shave, and put effort into looking good for them.

Have a plan.

When you make even the tiniest plan—even just deciding on a coffee shop—it shows your date that you cared enough to think of them ahead of time.

What to wear.

Here are some date looks that take you from casual to smokin’ hot with just a few easy changes.

Casual:

A great hoodie, jeans, and sandals/tennies are a solid choice for a casual date. The key is to get quality pieces that fit you well. You’ll be surprised at how comfortable a look like this is, too.

Going Out Date:

Notice how we only switched out the hoodie for a jean jacket & chose a different, slightly upgraded version of boots/designer tennies. Buying key pieces you can switch out in your wardrobe makes a huge difference on how you can dress up (or dress down) your look.

Special Occasion Date:

Any special occasion deserves a special outfit. This classic look is certain to impress—all you need are a pair of well-fitted jeans, a button-up or sweater, and a nice suit jacket. We’ve selected a few different choices for this look to show how you can mix & match.

Pro tip: don’t forget that your shoes are just as important as your clothing. A little investment in some nice footwear goes a long way. Add a little extra flair with a MVMT watch.

Look 1: We love taking an awesome blazer & pairing it with something super casual like a gray tee. You could even stick with the jean jacket—it really depends on the venue for your date.

Look 2: Switch the jean jacket out for a well-fitted blazer. Nix the tennies & up your look with a great pair of boots. You could even add a tie or bow tie to add some more fun to this look.

Look 3: Monochromatic done right is super sexy. If you really want to kick up the flavor, go with the brown boot. It’s just enough edge without taking away from the sophisticated look.

Looking great doesn’t take a huge amount of effort, but it does take planning. On your next date, spend some time looking as good for your boo, as they do for you.

5 Tips for Great Self-Care

Self-care has become a bit of a buzzword on thousands of Pinterest images, but it’s no joking matter. Taking good care of yourself is not only good for you, but good for the people around you.

When most people hear the term “self-care,” they probably think of people with way more money than them taking lavish vacations in Maui. But that doesn’t have to be true—in fact, the best ways to practice self-care are completely free.

Here are a few free or low-cost tips for great self-care:

1.)  Go for a run or hit the gym. One of the best ways to find the motivation to exercise is to remind yourself that you’re giving your body something good, not taking something away from it. Download a free Couch to 5K app and start training, or hit up a friend to go lift weights over your lunch break. It’s okay to start small—even once a week! Soon, you’ll find your routine and start feeling healthy again.

2.)  Ask a friend out to lunch. Let’s be real: sometimes the reason we feel like we don’t have enough friends is because we don’t enjoy time with the ones we already have. Take the initiative and send a text to the BFF you’ve been missing. Catching up over lunch at your fave spot is good for the soul.

3.)  Spend some time in nature. One of the best things you can do for your mental health is to get time away from artificial lighting (especially if you work in an office with no windows) and spend some time in nature. Eat your lunch in the park, bike to work one day, or go for a run at sunrise.

4.)  Keep a journal. Regularly jotting down your thoughts has been shown to reduce stress and improve your mood. Whether it’s a sentence a day or a few paragraphs, it’s easy to get started. Pen and paper are great, but if that’s not your vibe, check out apps like Day One or Five Minute Journal.
5.)  Schedule a date night. It might not seem as spontaneously romantic, but find a night to go out with your sweetie and put it on the calendar. Pro tip: look for deals on non-peak days, like BOGO tacos on Tuesdays or free museum admission on Thursdays.

First Date Makeup Tips

First date makeup. Get it right & you feel like a million bucks. Get it wrong & find out your lipstick’s gone rogue & you’re sporting a bright red mustache. You want to look like a rock star without looking like you tried too hard, so what do you do? Here are some of our favorite tips to nail your first date look:

  • Don’t try out a new look on your first date. If you’ve never worn falsies, tonight isn’t the night. Go with something you love.
  • Keep it light. It can be easy to want to pack on the layers of makeup to feel more secure, but really it can just become a distraction.
  • The most important part of your face to focus on is your skin. When your skin looks perfect, everything else is just bonus. Or donuts. Donuts are better.
  • Bring focus to your eyes. When your skin looks flawless, you’ve got room to play up your eyes.
  • Go for a more natural lip. Save your hot pink lipstick for your next night out. Wear a soft nude or pink lip to bring the intensity back to your eyes.

Whatever look you go for, just be confident & own it. Now get out there and enjoy that first date!
