Bringing Sexy Back With Your Budget

Budget isn’t a dirty word. When done right, it’s actually pretty sexy. Let me explain: The thought of having to budget, especially with my spouse, used to be like the thought of having a cavity filled—necessary, but painful. The thing is, though, you can’t ball on a budget without a budget. So, how does budgeting become sexy?

Here are three tips on how to budget like a boss with your spouse—and who knows, maybe your next budget meeting will feel less like a dental visit and more like a date night!

  1. Set a time limit. When I know we’re only spending 20 minutes on budgeting, I’m ready to focus. Plus, apps like You Need a Budget make it super fun and easy. We can easily automate our bills, so there’s not as much to think about. Plus, there’s no math involved. So, maybe more money actually isn’t more problems.
  2. Save room for fun. Give yourself and your spouse a little fun money each month. That way, you keep a little freedom to have a #treatyoself moment.
  3. Reward yourself after. Everything is better when there’s a reward. So, after your budget meetings, make it a date and celebrate with ice cream. Because ice cream is for winners.

Budgeting may not be the most glamorous thing in the world, but it helps us avoid arguments, prioritize what we spend money on, and spend time adulting together. So, when you think about it, it’s actually pretty sexy after all.
